    Singapore lowers flu alert level

Singapore on Monday lowered its alert level for swine flu amid growing signs the virus is milder than originally feared, the government said.

With the lowering of the alert level by a notch, temperature screening for flu-like symptoms in schools, offices and events will be lifted, the health ministry said in a statement on its website.

However, the city-state will continue to maintain strict border controls with temperature screening at air, land and sea checkpoints, the ministry said.

The city-state would also continue to issue home quarantine orders to passengers who have travelled to Mexico, the epicentre of the current flu outbreak, in the seven days prior to arriving in Singapore, it said.

As of Friday, 33 people were referred for precautionary medical assessment with all of them testing negative for the H1N1 virus except for one case, which is still pending laboratory investigations, the ministry said.
