March 30. Day 1 – Girona, M’anamora! (I fell in love with Girona)

Hola! How’s it going lovely people? So here I am in Marta’s house, the best lodging us backpackers can ever get here in Spain. It’s been a fantastic day walking around soaking in the sunlight and seeking adventures in the old town and laidback Mediterranean streets.

We landed in Girona after an approximate 3-hour flight on Ryanair at about 9.30am local time. Upon landing, the Spanish girls respectively made their way to their respective destinations. As our itinerary for the first 2 days will be in Catalunya, we will be spending today and tomorrow with Marta. Took a bus from the airport to her place. First glimpse of the Spanish land. Not a bad sight at all. And weather perfect; 17degrees with sun shining above us.

Reached Marta’s apartment which is pretty central to the town area. Everything is within walking distance from here; from the bus station to the café to the school. Marta’s apartment is really amazing. If this is some house in Singapore I would liken it to an executive flat or even a condominium. Super awesome. Angela and I have Marta’s room for the night while the boys took over her sister’s. Haha Marta’s been really hospitable to us, extremely hospitable to the point where I feel like this is home too. Hurrah!

So today we basically took a walk around town and admired the beautiful scenery of Girona, Catalunya. Marta showed us the old town, which is EPIC!!! Absolute bliss I swear. It’s like the kind of Mediterranean streets you might have seen on TV, in those James Bond stunts or whatever, and the parks are very mystical it might remind you of Narnia meets LOTR. Angela even said it’s like Garden of Eden, until Jamie reminded her Eden did not have concrete. Haha point noted. But yea, you get my point, the walls and the view is breathtaking. It reminded me of those Street Fighter kind of setting too, somehow. (please note the way each of our minds work. Wonders…I tell you)

Had lunch at one of the best restaurants serving Paela in town. Paela is basically a dish with rice and seafood. UBER FANTASTIC and worth my 17euros I tell you. After lunch, Marta brought us kids to the Gelato shop to entertain the Sweet Tooth Chica right here. Got my Gelato and I felt like I was in heaven.

Walked some more to the commercial zone, saw some shops, got flowers for Marta’s mum and then had a stroll in the park. Crossed the bridge and pretended to be in love. Walked some more and bought bread at the bakery which reminded me of a candy shop. Walked some more until my feet died.

Had dinner and her Mum cooked up a great feast for us. Bunch of pigs we must have been. I can’t possibly fathom how much we might have had for dinner today. My favourite was the salad with goat’s cheese. Perfecto…I tell you!

Post-dinner and it was 11pm. Cleaned up and ready for bed. I am dead tired from the lack of a good sleep since last night hello! But fret not, I am cranky queen no more.

Okay time for bed. All set for Day 2, let’s go!

    Adios!

And in her dreams, she was walking down the stone steps of the monument. And at the foot of it, he was waiting.

    Day 2 – Mediterranean Coasts

Hola amigos! It’s 1.45am on April Fool’s Day…haha and so we wrapped up our second day in Spain. Today Marta’s friend, Eduardo, came to drive us around town and to show us the beaches they have here in Catalunya. We started our day at 9.30am, had breakfast and then walked to the train station where the car rental office is situated. Edu got us a 7-seater…big enough to fit us tiny Singaporeans (haha…! Tiny..)

It was raining the whole day…but the rain did not deter our spirits at all. We were determined to capture the beautiful sight of Spanish beaches…probably saw about 5 or 6 different beaches today, and from different angles. We saw the beaches from sea level and sometimes from on top of the hill. The houses by the beach are also amazing…I wish I can get rich and buy a holiday house here. No kidding. Mission in life: Marry a gorgeous Spanish banker and buy a holiday house by the beach in Girona. Haha! Yea dream on Syida…

Had lunch at another posh restaurant near the harbour front. Felt so luxurious even the desserts tasted sweeter than it possibly could be. (Well, we had an awesome dessert spread nonetheless).

It rained again, and then Elisa joined us much later after we went around and had a few adventures, or should I say misadventures, in some street where Edu almost couldn’t get the car out. Lol…hilarious story only to be recited again in verbal account.

Had yet another awesome dinner spread at around 9.30pm. I swear these Spaniards eat dinner as late as they possibly can…a new insight into a new culture ay.

And then we mingled over some cake dessert, after which my brain died.

I shall sleep now. Buenos noches!

    Days 3 & 4 – Beautiful Barcelona

Hola! Okay so I’m now in some hostel in Barca with Angela. End of Day 4. It’s been amazing here. Highlight of the day: Visited the Sagrada Familia and some Gaudi architecture, shopped around La Rambla (Shopping District) and grabbed a coffee at Starbucks, chilled, and got back to cook dinner. It’s been raining today therefore thus. But the town area of Barcelona is bustling with energy nonetheless and I like how there is still life after 8pm. Haha. The life people, it’s THE life.

Yesterday the boys and us walked around town and saw plenty of gorgeous streets. Walked down Passeig de Gracia which is basically THE street of Barcelona. Saw plenty of Modernist architecture, some neo-Gothic Streets, more Gaudi inspired architecture. The weather was PERFECT! Sun shine and all. So we took our shades out and hung out by the beach. The port is beautiful beautiful beautiful I can’t possibly stress more on it. Walked some more and had dinner at this restaurant by the beach, and had more Paellas (which basically is the local cuisine; friend rice with seafood…EXTREMELY GOOD!).

After that it was starting to get dark so we walked some more to the streets when we discovered the Arc de Triomf. Walked down the Passeig de Sant Joan and walked towards the Arc, sat down on the passage to watch the sky get darker, saw the moon out, Angela and I got crazy and high while the boys were just tired of entertaining us kids. Haha. And then after what felt like a half hour rest, we continued walking in search of Torre Agbar, the phallic architecture of Spain.

After more crazy adventures, we walked back…exhausted from the day.

One more day in Barcelona tomorrow before catching the bus to Valencia in the evening. It’s been fun so far.

    More updates from me, Sugar.

    Adios and have fun!

    Kisses from Spain,
    Syida
