    [Roadtrip] Destination: Stockholm

Disclaimer: This entry is typed at the stated time below but updated at a much later time due to internet accessibility.

Hej hej! How’s it goin’ peeps! Timecheck: Sweden -1413hrs. Singapore – 2113hrs. Monday, February 9, 2009. I’m in my flight to Amsterdam with the crew, and RyanAir has got to be one awesomely cheap (though not so cheap since it’s sucking our resources up) flight minus one glitch, which totally screwed our plans this morning.

The past couple of days Angela and I had been stuck in Stockholm due to a series of unfortunate events that befall us. I’m not sure where to start, but let’s go back to last Wednesday, February 4th, when I got back from school.

So the crew (let’s just say that the Roadtrip Crew consists of Jamie, Daniel, Angela. Marilyn and me – but these things are fluid and flexible as always) had planned a trip to Helsinki, Finland for the weekend and then catch a flight to Eindhoven, Holland immediately after that from Stockholm. But the plan got screwed up when the dudes (and very often the planners) found out that the cruise to Helsinki has an age limit. And surprise surprise…it’s 21 and Angela and I are not going to be 21 anytime soon (pfft, underage kids). On top of that, they have booked the bus ticket to Stockholm, so like it or not, we have to spend the weekend in Stockholm on our own without the rest of the fun bunch. So being annoyed at the news, my Wednesday had been hell.

Nonetheless, I managed to contact Suba, a friend of Fazli, who is still in Stockholm. Got a place to bunk in for the weekend and so we went ahead with our plans.

We left Jonkoping on Saturday morning and caught an 8.05bus from the Resecentrum station. Bus ride to Stockholm from Jonkoping was about 4hours…bloody long and not to mention I have a weak bladder system, which is a joke. Realised that the bus would not make a toilet break stop or something and I had to hold my pee. Torture of the century I swear. Half an hour later Marilyn told me that they have a toilet in the bus. S-A-L-V-A-T-I-O-N.

By about noon we actually reached the Central Station in Stockholm and had lunch at MCDONALDS!!! Yes that one place which feels like home (haha!). But amidst the satisfying lunch we had then, we also ran into a tragic situation thereafter.

Long story short, the rest of the crew had to leave to catch their ferry to Helsinki. Angela and I waited for Suba to fetch us from the Central Station while we also settled the little situation we had on our hands.

The weekend spent with the rest of the NOC people had been nothing short of amazing as well. They brought us around and Stockholm is absolutely stunning I think I would love to make a stop there once again. We also managed to catch an ice hockey match, Czech versus Russia at the Globen Stadium (which is also where OASIS STEPPED FOOT ON. HELLO!!! OASIS!). Anyway, one bloody match that was, but we realized that there would be a Sweden versus Finland match immediately thereafter and it would be even more cool to catch that. Unfortunately the tickets might cost a little bit more of a fortune so we gave that a miss.

Had lunch with them in this fastfood outlet called Max at some place which I forgot the name to. I swear Stockholm is so cosmopolitan that Jonkoping now feels absolutely hillbilly. Haha. And the train system is very well connected so it kinda feels like Singapore all over again, minus the cold and mist.

Visited the old town called Gamla Stan, which is BEAUTIFUL!!! The whole street is like a maze, and the buildings gorgeous as a European street can be. Suba told me to catch the Royal Palace, but I swear to God every building just looks like a castle so Angela and I, together with Edmund and Ariff (new found friends btw. Haha) were like “oh I think this is the castle. No wait, I think that is the castle. No wait. I think, the other one is the castle.” I’m not kidding. Any museum or Royal Church or building may just past off as the Royal Palace and ignorant kids like us may just believe that. Haha so much for aesthetic appreciation there.

And yep, we stopped for hot chocolate at some cafe in Gamla Stan. Absolute bliss.

Honestly, I can never be anymore thankful of Suba’s hospitality for hostng us over the couple of nights. I’m glad to have met another group of fellow countrymen in Stockholm! ‘Lest I honestly would be partially clueless from having to find an accommodation on our own and such. So here’s a shout out to the wonderful girl Fazli introduced me to…THANK YOU SUBASYINI!!! :)=)

And here’s a shout out to Fazli Mansor too for the jacket. It’s really good. Haha!

Okay peeps hope you guys are enjoying yourselves wherever you are. This is Syida, signing off, and maybe landing in Eindhoven, Holland in a few minutes time.

P/s: Hi Abang I hope you are reading this. I will go to the stadium and touch the place for you as a tribute of your love for PSV Eindhoven. Haha.

    Much love, hugs, and kisses,
    Syida
